ISIN
International Securities Identification Number
A 12-character global identifier for a specific security or fund share class.
An ISIN identifies a share class, not a strategy. The accumulating and distributing classes of one fund have different ISINs, as do classes in different currencies.
The final character is a check digit, so a mistyped ISIN can usually be detected rather than silently matching another instrument.
An ISIN does not identify a listing. One ISIN can trade on several exchanges under several tickers, which is why mapping an ISIN to a ticker requires knowing which listing is meant.
