Who we are
About Fundology
Fundology is a free information site about UK funds, ETFs, ISAs and pensions. It shows what a fund costs in pounds, how it has done before and after inflation, and what it holds, with the source and date beside every figure. It does not sell investments and it does not give advice.
Who runs it
Fundology is an independent project run by a small team. It is not owned by a fund manager, a platform or a bank, and no fund can pay to be listed, placed in a category or shown first. Questions go to a real inbox and a person answers them.
Information, not advice
We show information. We are not financial advisers, not authorised by the FCA, and never recommend specific investments. Nothing here takes anyone’s circumstances into account. Lists open in a neutral order, such as name, size or charge; none is a ranking of which fund is better.
Every page that shows past returns carries the risk warning: Capital at risk. Past performance is not a guide to future returns. The value of investments can fall as well as rise. For free, impartial guidance, MoneyHelper (backed by the government) can help; for a personal recommendation, speak to a financial adviser authorised by the FCA.
How it is paid for
Fundology is free, and there is nothing to buy. Some fund pages link to UK platforms; if someone opens an account through one of those links, the platform may pay us a referral fee. We take no payments from fund managers, and no fee changes a figure, a category or the order of a list.
A free account adds a watchlist and your own records. A Pro level exists and is currently by invitation; it is not sold. What each includes is on the pricing page.
Where the data comes from
- TradingView
- Daily closing prices (at least 15 minutes delayed), reported returns, charges and fund details.
- FCA FIRDS register
- The reference list of instruments: ISINs, names and where each is listed.
- Fund issuers
- Holdings, from iShares holdings files and Vanguard factsheets.
- Office for National Statistics
- CPIH inflation, used for every return after inflation (Open Government Licence).
- European Central Bank
- Reference exchange rates, to turn dollar and euro figures into pounds.
- GOV.UK and HMRC
- ISA, pension and tax figures in the guides, each checked on a stated date.
Each feed’s licence, last refresh and coverage are on the data status page; how every figure is calculated is in the methodology.
Corrections
If a figure does not match its source or its written method, that is our mistake. Tell us the fund, the figure and what you expected; we check it against the source, correct it, and say so rather than quietly changing it. Where a figure cannot be checked, it is left out rather than guessed, and a figure that looks implausible is held back until it has been reviewed.
