CPIH
Consumer Prices Index including owner-occupiers’ housing costs
The ONS’s lead measure of UK consumer inflation, extending CPI to include the cost of owning a home.
CPIH tracks the same basket as CPI but adds owner-occupiers’ housing costs and council tax. Because housing is a large share of most UK household spending, excluding it can understate the inflation a household actually experiences.
The ONS publishes CPIH monthly as series L55O. It is the series used for every real-return figure on this site.
CPIH describes a national average basket. Any individual’s personal inflation rate differs according to what they actually buy.
How we calculate it
ONS series L55O, monthly.
