CPIH
Consumer Prices Index including owner-occupiers’ housing costs
The lead official measure of UK consumer inflation, extending CPI to include the cost of owning a home.
CPIH tracks the same basket as CPI but adds owner-occupiers’ housing costs and council tax. Because housing is a large share of most UK household spending, excluding it can understate the inflation a household actually experiences.
CPIH is published monthly, both as an index and as a 12-month rate. Every real-return figure on this site is worked out from the index; the rate is the inflation figure quoted.
CPIH describes a national average basket. Any individual’s personal inflation rate differs according to what they actually buy.
